Woman Airlifted After Personal Watercraft Accident in Quiogue

Sep 13, 2012 1:19 PM

A 22-year-old woman was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital at about 3 p.m. on Monday following a water skiing accident off Hobart Lane on Quiogue that severed her hand, according to Rita Wyatt, chief of the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance.

While water skiing during a company outing, the woman wrapped the tow rope around her hand and when a coworker put a personal watercraft in gear, her hand was instantly severed, according to Southampton Town Police.

She was treated by paramedics who then transported her to the parking lot of the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Quiogue, where a Suffolk County Police Medevac helicopter landed. Police said on Thursday that she was in stable but serious condition.

The Westhampton Beach Fire Department also responded to the scene.
