With two victories last week, the Westhampton Beach softball team has gone 5-3 since spring break and now stands at 5-7 in League VI play, 6-7 overall. The Lady Hurricanes were 1-4 prior to the mid-April break.
Westhampton Beach won 7-4 at Bellport on April 25 before defeating Harborfields 7-5 the following day at home. The Lady Hurricanes did drop Monday evening’s game at Islip by a score of 9-2. All three games were League V/League VI crossovers.
Senior Michelle Cardo led Westhampton Beach’s offense in the win over Harborfields. She went 3 for 3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Senior Vicki Mackowka went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and senior Tara Boeshore earned the win on the mound.
In the win over Bellport, it was the younger Lady Hurricanes who led the charge. Aurora MacDonald, who was just recently called up from junior varsity, went 2 for 4 with two runs scored while freshman Maddy Sganga also went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs. Junior Claudia Purkis pitched the complete game for the victory.
Westhampton Beach needs to have at least a .500 record to make the postseason, which is tentatively scheduled to start on Friday, May 18.
