The building that housed the long-standing Johnny’s Bait and Tackle Shop in Montauk sold in December, and this month the official sale price and buyer were revealed. Owner John W. Kronuch sold it for $1.8 million to Shamu LLC, which traces back to Gabrielle Costanzo. The Costanzo family also owns the Kai-Kai Sandals stores in Montauk. It is not yet known what will replace the tackle shop.

Located at 786 Montauk Highway, on the corner of Main Street and South Edison Street, the brown Tudor-style building includes the ground-floor retail space and a two-car garage, as well as a second-floor apartment with three bedrooms, one bath and a deck with an ocean view, according to the listing.

The tackle shop is yet another deep-rooted establishment in the hamlet that closed its doors last year, along with nearby Shagwong and Trail’s End Restaurant. It was owned and operated by Mr. Kronuch and his family for eight decades, and they had been asking for $1.995 million.
