SAG HARBOR VILLAGE & EAST HAMPTON VILLAGE — Two women who got off the eastbound Hampton Jitney in East Hampton very early morning last Saturday discovered that their luggage had apparently been taken out of the hold beneath the bus by someone else in Sag Harbor. They called police to report the event. One of the women had a MacBook in her suitcase, and police were able to track down the location of the MacBook to a Main Street address in Sag Harbor. SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — Police are assisting in the investigation of the whereabouts of a painting valued at $500,000. The painting was turned over to a major local gallery with several locations, including Sag Harbor, in 2023. The gallery owner told police that the painting had been shipped to Florida, where a prospective buyer was ready to purchase it, but that then the buyer backed out of the deal. The gallery owner promised to retrieve the painting and return it to its rightful owner within a week. Police are classifying this matter as an ongoing investigation. SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — A Burke Street resident alerted Village Police on Saturday afternoon that there was a car parked nearby with its engine running. The resident told police that the engine had been running since early morning. Police located the unoccupied vehicle. The doors to the car were locked, but the engine was running. They traced the car’s ownership through its registration and were able to locate the owner, who returned to the car and shut the engine off.
