An officer went to investigate and reported hearing the crying but could not gain access to the building. A few minutes later, police received another call again reporting the crying sound. SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — On the morning after the conclusion of Harborfest, September 16, it was discovered that a person or persons unknown had defaced the Harborfest whale, which was anchored off Windmill Beach, by painting political slogans, apparently in support of Donald Trump’s presidential bid. SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — Police received a report Sunday afternoon of a suspicious man peering in the windows at the elementary school on Hampton Street. An officer went to investigate and walked around the building. The officer located the man in question, who, it turned out, works for a security firm hired by the school. The man told the officer he was checking to make sure that all windows and doors were secure. SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — On Sunday night, an officer spotted a 2019 gray Volvo being driven around the parking lot at Pierson High School at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver fled, temporarily eluding the officer. However, according to the report, the officer eventually located the car, now parked in front of a Harding Terrace residence. Though the vehicle was unoccupied, the hood was warm, police said. SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — A 13-foot whaler that had been tied to a much larger yacht anchored in Sag Harbor Cove disappeared during the overnight hours of August 18 and 19. Later on August 19, the whaler turned up, spotted by Shelter Island Marine Patrol, tied to a mooring in Smith Cove off Shelter Island. The owner of the yacht was contacted and shuttled over to Smith Cove and his missing whaler. The owner reported that there was no damage and returned the whaler to Sag Harbor Cove. SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — Sag Harbor Village Police arrested Monte R. Albers de Leon, 46, of Manhattan on a felony charge of driving with ability impaired by drugs at about 4:30 p.m. on August 14. The charge is a felony because Albers de Leon has been convicted of misdemeanor DWI within the past 10 years after a previous arrest by Sag Harbor Village Police, automatically making any new DWI charge or driving under the influence of drugs charge a felony.
