With spring cleanup underway, I wanted to acknowledge the men and women of the Department of Public Works who are doing an amazing job. This year’s work is better than ever before.
The Parks Department has been installing new mulch and plantings throughout the downtown, and they are planting new trees throughout the village. The Highway Department is working on striping and paving roads so that they are in good shape for the summer season. The Building Maintenance Department is hard at work improving the building at Coopers Beach, as well as working with Johnson Controls to improve the energy efficiency in our buildings.
There are so many people to recognize, as we have one of the very best public works departments. John Flick has done a nice job leading the Parks Department during this busy time, with help from everyone, including outstanding seasoned veterans such as Bill Banks and Eddie West, and newly hired parks department members who are a welcome addition to our team. This summer, the parks team also will continue our downtown cleanups to ensure that our downtown looks great.
The Highway Department is running better than ever before under the leadership of Corey Sweezey and with help from Brian Doroska.
I am very proud of all of the members of the Highway Department, which has come a long way over the last year. Specifically, they have used our newly purchased beach rake to ensure that our beaches are pristine. We also have increased the beach raking for our residents. We are deploying our new street sweeper to make sure that our streets are extra clean.
Building Maintenance also is doing an excellent job under the leadership of Bob Hand. Mauricio Espinoza and other members have been doing a superb job at Coopers Beach, and all members, such as Maryann Wright, Brenda Pickney, Victor Crump and the rest of the team, are the very best. I also wanted to thank department head Steve Phillips for his efforts as well.
I cannot mention all the great DPW employees in one letter, but I wanted to thank each and every member for their top-notch work this spring. Their hard work translates into our beautiful village. And, it is their work which leads to all residents having a great place to live and enjoy.
We owe them a debt of gratitude for their efforts.
