Brandon Tyler Griffing of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, and formerly of Hampton Bays, died suddenly on January 5. He was 31.
Mr. Griffing was born on December 15, 1989 at Southampton Hospital to Meredith Griffing and the late Kevin Strand, both of Hampton Bays.
He graduated from G*Star High School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida in 2008. He went on to work in the marine electronics industry beside his grandfather, Brewster H. Griffing Sr. of Boynton Beach, Florida.
Mr. Griffing enjoyed the beach and being on the water and his job afforded him plenty of time there. He loved music of all kinds and acquired a large collection of old and new vinyl albums. He had played drums in school and self taught himself guitar. He had an absolute love of music that he shared with his siblings, his family said.
He always had a bright big smile and hug to share whether you needed or not and they were the best hugs ever, his family said, noting that he was a kind, gentle, sensitive old soul who loved deeply. He did what he liked, wore what he liked without a care of others’ opinions. He was a free spirit, loving son, brother, nephew and grandson, his family said.
He is survived by his mother Meredith Butters of Hampton Bays; his father Tim Butters of Royal Palm Beach; his sister Taylor Butters and brother Aaron Butters, both of Hampton Bays. He is also survived by his uncle Brewster H. Griffing Jr. and his wife Christine of Hampton Bays; his grandparents Brewster and Diana Griffing Sr. of Boynton Beach; and his grandmother Eileen Strand of Hampton Bays; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were scheduled for Saturday, January 16, at Scott Rothwell Funeral Home from noon to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Southampton Town Animal Shelter Foundation (southamptonanimalshelter.com) would be appreciated by the family.
