Brian Callahan of Sag Harbor died on February 12. He was 68.
Mr. Callahan and his family lived in Karachi, Pakistan, where his father, John P. Callahan, was a New York Times foreign correspondent. On their return from Pakistan, the Callahan family moved to Brooklyn Heights, then to Amagansett in 1959.
Mr. Callahan spent the early years of his life on the East End of Long Island, attending Amagansett Grade School and the Hampton Day School in Bridgehampton. He went on to earn a B.A. in philosophy from Fordham College and an M.B.A. from Pace University’s Lubin School of Business, both in New York City.
Mr. Callahan’s professional life centered on the market research he carried out for AT&T, Lucent Technologies and later for the leading wine producing nations of New Zealand and South Africa.
He was an avid reader, an opera lover and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees.
Nothing brought Mr. Callahan greater joy than spending time with his children, his family said. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew his gentle demeanor, generous spirit and wonderful sense of humor, they noted.
Mr. Callahan is survived his daughter Maris; son Derek; former wife and beloved friend Daryl; sister Lynn; brothers Rory and Michael; nieces Kim Navarre, Meagan, Eliza and Kristin Callahan; nephew Ryan Navarre; brother-in-law Rick Taylor, and sisters-in-law Jan Callahan, Carole Cleaver, Dale Rubin and Kelly Francis. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers Gill and Kevin Callahan.
A private graveside memorial service will be held in June 2021 at Oakland Cemetery, followed by a celebration of Mr. Callahan’s life for family and friends at a Sag Harbor location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry (sagharborfoodpantry.org).
