Our Lady Of The Hamptons School Lisa Macari and her Prep 6 class were the student leaders of the Advent Liturgy on the Feast of St Nicholas. The mass was concelebrated by Fathers John Wachowicz and Ryan Creamer. The OLH Joyful Noise, Hamptones, Hamptonix, Dance Troupes and bell choir enhanced the prayer and blessing of the Advent wreath, creche and Christmas tree at the family Advent service. Southampton School District Senior Tonoa Pender has been recognized by the Rotary Club of Southampton as the Rotary Student of the Month for December. She earned the honor for her dedication to her studies and school community. She is the treasurer of the Rotary Interact Club and a member of the Spanish and National honor societies. She also participates in the Best Buddies program and the Southampton Village Planning Commission. When not studying, she enjoys sewing, thrifting, meditation and volunteering at the local Methodist church. Hayground School Students in Marybeth Pacilio’s and RJ Partington’s class took turns teaching the class about different aspects of slavery that they researched in small groups. Their focus has been on the origins, the middle passage, and the impact that slavery had on families and the lives of children in particular. Students have also been reading selected excerpts from Jules Lester’s “To Be A Slave.” It is a collection of first-person narratives of those who were enslaved. Bridgehampton School A Construction Student Ambassador Program has been recently initiated at the school. In the program, students have an opportunity to meet with the architect, construction manager and builders who are involved in the 35,000-square-foot expansion of the school building, which includes a new gymnasium, cafeteria, fitness center, locker rooms and a technology room. Springs School East Hampton High School students, and Springs School alumnae, Darcy McFarland and Sophia Swanson, along with teammates Julia and Jane Brierley competed in the state swim championship in Ithaca. Sean Lester and Dominic Coronel help pack up food donations for Springs School’s annual Thanksgiving Drive. The school provided Thanksgiving Day meals for 16 families in need. Our Lady of the Hamptons School Jennifer Gross and her second-graders presented “Good Manners, A medieval Etiquette Lesson” as their school assembly. The students sang and offered several lessons in good taste, kindness, table manners and life in general. Pre-Thanksgiving outreach at the school has involved all students in a food drive, the collection of winter coats for the needy, and the creation of centerpieces for the Spanish Apostolate celebration dinner. The first hundred fifty tickets have been sold in the annual Bucks for Books campaign to support student programs and initiatives. Bridgehampton School The school has a new club, “Friends of Rachel.” Students and adviser Joe Pluta are sharing the work of Rachel’s Challenge with the school and community, with the goal of a chain reaction of kindness. Springs School Last week, Ms. Amicucci’s seventh grade math classes celebrated “Mathgiving,” a food feast where students act as waiters and diners in a mock restaurant and have to calculate their bills including tax and tip. Also for Thanksgiving, kindergartners will perform the song and dance, “Albuquerque Turkey,” in front of parents and enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving meal of mashed potatoes, turkey, stuffing, cornbread, and apple and pumpkin pie. Springs School Students are gearing up for the annual “Turkey Trot” on Monday, November 18. Through the run, students raise money toward the PTA’s swim program and the junior high ice skating night at Bucksill. More information may be found on the school’s website at springsschool.org. Students brought in leftover Halloween candy for the school’s Candy Buy-Back program, which sends this candy to troops and children overseas. Mrs. Diaz’s class brought in the most candy, a total of 18 pounds. The elementary school collected a total of 65 pounds of candy.
