Catherine Burnikel Of Sag Harbor Dies August 14

Catherine Burnikel of Sag Harbor died on August 14. She was 82.

Born in Chicago on November 7, 1929, she had lived in Sagaponack for many years before moving to Sag Harbor. She 
earned a bachelor’s degree from Manhattanville College and a doctorate in history from Loyola University in Chicago. She worked as an executive secretary.

Survived by 15 nieces and nephews, she was predeceased by four siblings, Charles, Eugene and Robert Burnikel and Mary Burnikel DiGiovanna.

A funeral Mass was held at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary in Bridgehampton on August 17. Interment was at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Smithtown. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor.
