Courageous Candidates

Some people say, “Forget about politics” … But we can’t … there is too much at stake.

We all know how great it is to live out here on the East End in the Town of Southampton. Under the current Democratic majority, the water is cleaner, it’s safer and the Town of Southampton debt rating is AAA, resulting in lower taxes for all of us. It’s beautiful here, it’s very safe, and it’s a great place to raise a family, it’s a great place to retire. It’s great!

Personally, I couldn’t find a better place to live … And, the taxes here are so low. I lived in Rockville Centre in Nassau County several years ago — a great community and an easy commute to New York City, but very high taxes. I can gratefully say that with our low real estate taxes, my wife and I can live here for as long as we want.

I am an active member of the Southampton Town Democratic Committee, and I see what goes on up close. I am truly amazed at the amount of time and effort that our elected officials routinely put into their jobs. Likewise, the level of effort put forth to get elected or reelected is staggering. I say hats off to all of our elected officials and to all of our candidates for their grit and determination.

So I close with a brief excerpt of a Teddy Roosevelt quote about “The Man In The Arena”:

“The credit belongs to the man [or woman … my addition] who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood … who spends himself in a worthy cause … If he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those timid souls who neither know victory or defeat.”

I urge everyone to go to the polls and vote for the candidates of your choice. These brave, hardworking candidates deserve an electorate that expends the minimal time and effort to vote.

Regrettably, voter turnout is often very, very low … especially in off-year local elections. Let’s break the mold and turn out en masse on Election Day, November 5.

Our courageous candidates have earned your participation.
