Douglas E. Penski of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Southampton, died on November 28, 2019. He would have been 58 on November 30.
Born November 30, 1961, at Southampton Hospital to Stanley and Shirley Penski of Southampton, he was a 1980 graduate of Southampton High School, where he was co-captain and All-League member of the football team. He was on the wresting and track teams, and was named Rotary Student of the Month in December 1979.
Mr. Penski kept in close touch with his family in Southampton and was known as a friendly and generous guy; he donated a kidney to his brother, Matthew, in October 1995. Survivors said he loved children and animals and was especially proud of his two granddaughters, Ellis and Erin. Working in his yard was a favorite pastime and he often spoke of his prized peach tree. He worked as a trucker for many years and, occasionally, his route brought him back to Long Island for a visit. He was in Southampton when the Twin Towers were attacked on September 11, 2001 and he was unable to leave the area for more than a week.
Mr. Penski is survived by his parents, Stanley and Shirley Penski of Southampton; his son, Edward Penski and wife Eliza of Arizona; two granddaughters, Ellis and Erin Penski; his siblings, Deborah Greene and husband David, Michael and wife Tracy, James and wife Teri, Matthew and wife Peggy; and his nephews, Raymond Penski, Dustin Greene and Daniel Greene.
He was predeceased by his wife, Cindy; his stepson, Brandon; and his nephew, David Penski.
A memorial service will be held in the summer in Southampton.
