May your Easter Sunday be warm, sunny and happy!

Last Saturday’s annual egg hunt, sponsored by our East Quogue Chamber of Commerce, was a huge hit with the kids—and the adults, too. The big bunny (also known as Jack Seeliger) arrived on a big red fire truck, courtesy of the East Quogue Fire Department, amid squeals of delight that could be heard far and wide.

And, speaking of Easter eggs, an “Eggstravaganza” will be held at the Quogue Wildlife Refuge this Saturday, March 30. Children age 5 to 12 will build their own nests and decorate hard-boiled eggs. There are two 45-minute sessions scheduled: Session I begins at 11 a.m. and Session II starts at 2 p.m. There is a $5 fee per child and reservations are required. For information, call (631) 653-4771.

The sixth-graders at our East Quogue Elementary School will be holding a huge athletic equipment yard sale on Saturday, April 13, from 9 a.m. until noon, in the school cafetorium. There will be plenty of bicycles, dance attire, horseback riding gear and sports equipment for sale.

And you can indulge your sweet tooth while “shopping” with a delicious treat from the bake sale. So, come help our students offset the cost of their upcoming trip to Boston.

A great big shout-out from Nick Marsh goes to our East Quogue Fire Department and, in particular, Tony Danowski and Tom Mendenhall. Nick was rushed to the hospital and wants to thank our dedicated firefighters and EMTs for “saving his life.”

East Quogue’s renowned marine science expert and professor, Chris Gobler, will discuss “Hurricanes, Heat Waves, and Harmful Algal Blooms: What is the fate of Long Island’s Coastal Ecosystems as they Confront the New Normal?” on Friday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m., in the Duke Lecture Hall over at the Stony Brook Southampton campus.

And, finally, Major General Patrick A. Murphy has announced the reenlistment of Sergeant Donald Wilson of East Quogue in the New York Army National Guard. Specialist Wilson will continue service with Company B, 3-142nd Aviation Regiment.

On The Calendar

Sunday, March 31: Covered dish breakfast at 9 a.m., followed by Easter services at 11 a.m., at the East Quogue United Methodist Church on Montauk Highway.

Saturday, April 6: East Quogue Fire Department’s third annual “A Night of Comedy” will be held at the Montauk Highway firehouse. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 each. For tickets or information, call (631) 653-5101 or send an email to wattssup@optonline.net.
