On Monday, November 10, East Quogue School hosted a special ceremony for the grand opening of its new Hallway of Heroes, an area of the school recently redecorated to honor active-duty service members and veterans from the local community, as well as first responders.
The Hallway of Heroes was created to serve as a lasting reminder to students and visitors of the values of integrity, honor, and service to others, according to East Quogue School Superintendent/Principal Michael Miller, who said it “stands as both a place of reflection and inspiration, celebrating those who dedicate their lives to protecting our nation and community.”
The district was especially proud to induct Richard and Jason Davin as the first honorees featured on the wall. Both were recognized not only for their distinguished military service but also for their continued dedication to the community through their roles in law enforcement.
There was a ribbon-cutting with school staff, including Miller and Board of Education members, as well as special guests in attendance, including U.S. Representative Nick LaLota, State Assemblyman Tommy John Schiavoni, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, Southampton Town Councilwoman Cyndi McNamara, retired Navy SEAL and Director of the Navy SEAL Museum Chris Wyllie, and veterans Jason Davin, Richard Davin and Kevin Imparato.
Several local veterans and service members were honored at the grand opening and during a schoolwide assembly that featured the history of each military branch, a Q&A session and a slideshow of veterans connected to the East Quogue community.
