Speaking of the proposed $28.3 million budget for the East Quogue School district this week, Interim Superintendent Kelly Fallon said, “This budget will maintain all current programs and staff plus funding for integrated co-teaching and additional student services.”
Up a little over 4 percent from this year’s $27.25 million adopted budget, the budget proposes a tax levy that increases 1.99 percent. It stays within the threshold allowed under the state-mandated tax levy increase cap, which allows the district to increase the levy by 3.06 percent.
If the plan is approved by voters in May, it would mean a school tax of $5,282 for the average single family homeowner in East Quogue. That’s just a 1.01 percent increase over last year. The proposed budget includes increases in teacher salaries.
A budget hearing will be held at the school on May 2 at 7 p.m. , with the subsequent vote on May 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the gymnasium.
In the vote for school board seats held the same evening, three candidates are vying for two seats.
Incumbents Kristin Jankowski and Kristi LoRusso are running for reelection. Newcomer Fallon Moscicki has thrown her hat into the ring.
Profiles of the hopefuls will be published in future editions of The Southampton Press.
