Eleanor Massarotti Musarra
Eleanor Massarotti Musarra of Southampton died at the home of her niece, Lisa Moore, on January 11. She was 89.
Born on April 27, 1923, in the Bronx, she attended school there and became a buyer for the Gimbles department store. During that time she met and married the love of her life, Joseph Musarra, and the couple moved to Manhassett, before eventually purchasing a home in Southampton.
Ms. Musarra and her husband Joe were avid golfers, both members of the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club and Marco Island Country Club. One of her proudest moments was in 1986 when she won the North and South Senior Women’s Invitational Governor’s Flight low net.
She was an avid traveler and enjoyed sharing this passion with her family. She had many friends who adored her company and zest for adventure. Her laughter was infectious, survivors said.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1982; a brother, Vincent Massarotti in 2003; and a stepson, Richard Musarra.
She is survived by four nephews, Vincent Massarotti and his wife Mary, Chris, David, and Glenn and wife Holly; a niece, Lisa Massarotti Moore and husband Wayne; a sister-in-law, Joanne Massarotti; a stepdaughter, Delores Plunkett; and step-grandchildren, Leigh Ann, Donna, Mark, Richard, Ginny, Mimi and Colleen; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brocketts Funeral Home in Southampton, with a parish prayer service at 3 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 19, at the Basilica Parish of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury.
