Eunice Hampton
Eunice Hampton of Bridgehampton died at her home on Saturday, November 26. She was 73.
Born February 18, 1938, in Walterboro, South Carolina, to Charles and Mamie Lou Fishburne, she was a devoted wife and mother who always put the interests of her family first. The example she lived every day will be a goal for her family to strive to reach, survivors said. She gave much of her time to others and would do anything to help her community. She enjoyed helping to restore and beautify her neighborhood.
Ms. Hampton was a member of the First Church of God in Christ in Bridgehampton, where she served under the leadership of the late Superintendent Garland Thomas. After his death, she served under Pastor T.J. Williams Jr. She was faithful to her church and served on the Mother’s Board, was the president of the senior choir and was Pastor’s Aide leader.
Ms. Hampton also worked as a custodian for the Southampton School District for many years.
She is survived by her children, Tonny Hampton and his wife Cynthia, Juanita Trent and her husband Theodore, Timothy Hampton and his wife Shirley, Jacqueline Gettling and her husband Thomas and Jennifer Hampton; siblings, Susie Doctor of Riverhead and Dianne DeLee of South Carolina, Charles Fishburne of Virginia, Ernest Fishburne and his wife Patricia of South Carolina, Paul Fishburne of Riverhead and Elie Fishburne and his wife Katie of Bridgehampton; 13 grandchildren, Latisha, Tonny Jr., Tyrell, Jennifer, Jamal, Tiffany, Fawn, Taurean, Jason, Nicholas, Demitri, Timiqua and Trè; six great-grandchildren, Amari, Ciara, Raina, Artie, Dominick and Takari Alyse; godsister, Ernestine Haywood of South Carolina; and goddaughter, Connie Wiggins of Albany. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Hampton, in 2004.
Visitation took place on Saturday, December 3, at Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead. A funeral service took place at the church with the Bishop Frank Anthone White officiating and the Reverend T.J Willaims Jr. delivered the eulogy. Interment followed at Southampton Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
