Evelyn Simmons
Evelyn Alice Simmons of Southampton died at her home on Sunday, March 4. She was 79.
She was born May 22, 1932, in Roxbury, Connecticut, and married Ross H. Simmons in 1949.
Ms. Simmons had a passionate and enthusiastic zest for life that inspired all her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling and adventure and often embarked on both with barely a moment’s notice. A devout animal lover, she was known to take in all manner of pets in need of a home. Recently, she could always be found with her newest canine friend, Diablo, by her side.
Ms. Simmons is survived by six children, Karen Smith of Southampton, Ronald Simmons of Flanders, Lynn Gilmore of Riverhead, Kenneth Simmons of Southampton, Gail Rosante of Westhampton Beach, and Deborah Dougherty of Hampton Bays; and siblings, Elliot, Morris, Nelson, Dennis, Gail, Joyce and Laurie; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ross Simmons.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, March 7, at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A church service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, at the Southampton Full Gospel Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, P.O. Box 901, Wainscott, NY 11975, would be appreciated by the family.
