Feeding Frenzy

I’m a firm supporter of Governor Andrew Cuomo. I feel sorry for the men and women whom he may have mistreated.

I’m sure all the do-nothing politicians hate him because he holds their feet to the fire. I don’t see anything that comes close to sexual harassment in these accusations, but that’s me.

If a person is in a toxic environment, they should quit. It seems those who work in the governor’s office can take the pressure and respect what he is accomplishing. So why all the political heat?

Is all this about Executive Order No. 203? An order withholding money from those mayors who don’t do the right thing regarding racial profiling in their police force? Look it up, as the deadline is May 1.

I have never seen a person stand up and pull his constituents together during the worst threat this world has ever seen the way Cuomo did. Executive Order No. 203 shows as much strength.

Now, let’s discuss today’s sexual harassment charges. Men have always desired good-looking women — that’s just a fact. It is also true that women want handsome and powerful men.

So, when is something determined to be sexual harassment? Is it in language, or can something be meant in jest? Is asking for a kiss the same thing as a forced kiss? We have all flirted, and anyone can mistake a signal, which may end in an unwanted kiss. That wedding photo may have been a simple photo op.

When the attorney general examines it all, we will have the answers, and not before. (Watch David Mamet’s “Oleanna” on Turner Classics for a fictional example of what I believe is happening with Cuomo.)

The feeding frenzy starts with a conversation or a call to a reporter. It starts small, unless it’s a high-profile person, then it catches like wildfire. It becomes the story of the day. Those with past agendas read these articles and think it is their chance to get even. After all, he’s a son of a bitch. And the numbers grow.

Then the politicians come out and jump on the bandwagon. Where were Senators Kirsten Gillibrand or Chuck Schumer daily for the past year? Are they both afraid of losing their seat to Cuomo?

All New York politicians should help him at this time, or they should resign. We are not out of the woods with this pandemic. Instead of adding to a feeding frenzy, support the person on the front line, and make sure your towns meet the No. 203 deadline.

Which governor has ever called the people of his state “loving”?
