Virginia Barfield Page, a former summer resident of Southampton, died on February 4 at her home in Florida. She was 90.
Born July 5, 1919, in Hahira, Georgia, she graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia, where she was a founding member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She received a master’s degree in social work from Tulane University and worked for the Department of Children and Families of the State of Georgia as a licensed social worker.
During World War II, she worked as the head of non-military personnel at Moody Army Air Corps Base in Moultrie, Georgia. It was there that she met her future husband, Frank Jarvis Page, a fighter pilot, with whom she enjoyed more than 60 years of marriage.
A longtime resident of Garden City, Mrs. Page was a member of the Aaron Ogden Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, founding president of the Garden City Historical Society, co-founder of the Cornelia Cotillion Debutante Ball and a member of the Ladies Golf Association of the Cherry Valley Club.
She was also a member of the Altar Guild of the Cathedral of the Incarnation, where she was a founder of the children’s choir. Survivors said that Ms. Page was a gracious hostess and talented cook and that her Christmas Eve parties will be long remembered.
She is survived by two daughters, Beatty Page Cramer of Southampton, Palm Beach, Florida and Vail, Colorado, and Ferrell Page McClean of Locust Valley, Hobe Sound, Florida, and Vail, Colorado; a granddaughter, Ferrell Page McClean; and a grandson, William Chichester McClean IV.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 19, at 3 p.m., at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, Florida.
