Joseph P. Barauskas Jr.
Joseph P. Barauskas Jr. of Greenburg, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Westhampton Beach, died at his home on Wednesday, August 1. He was 70.
Mr. Barauskas was born on June 18, 1942, in Westhampton Beach to the late Joseph Paul Sr. and Marie (LaSota) Barauskas. He graduated from Mercy High School in Riverhead in 1960.
He was a decorated Vietnam veteran earning a Bronze Star as a U.S. Navy corpsman, third class, in the 3rd Medical Battalion in KheSanh, Hue, Phu Bai Dong Ha and DaNang.
Mr. Barauskas was a certified nurse anesthetist and worked at numerous hospitals in Pennsylvania, including Westmorland Hospital, Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital, Jeannette Hospital and Citizens General.
He was a member of Ascension Church in Jennette, Pennsylvania, and was one of the first male employees of the Seton Healthcare Family, a former member of St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Paul Parish and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1480 in Greensburg.
Mr. Barauskas loved the beach and was a fun loving “Pappy,” according to survivors. He was a passionate environmentalist and gardener.
He is survived by his wife Philomena (nee DiPietro); a son, Joseph Paul Barauskas III and his wife Erin of Virginia; two daughters, Dana D’Avella and her husband Tony of Maryland and Kara Barauskas of Maryland; three grandchildren, Joseph Connor Barauskas, Gianna and Nicholas D’Avella; his twin brother and sister, Robert Barauskas and his wife Lynn of Riverhead, and Barbara McAuley and her husband, Shawn, of Westhampton Beach; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a great-great-niece.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Baraukas was predeceased by his twin sisters, Mary and Martha Barauskas.
The family received friends at the Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home in Greenburg, Pennsylvania on Friday, August 3. A funeral Mass was held at the Ascension Church in Jeanette, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, August 4, with the Reverend John Foriska officiating. Interment followed at the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
