Gary R. Murphy Of Hampton Bays Dies December 17

Gary R. Murphy of Hampton Bays died at his home on December 17. He was 73.

Mr. Murphy worked for many years for Verizon. After retiring from that firm, he went to work for the Montauk Bus Company as a school bus driver. He was a devoted member of the Southampton Full Gospel Church of Southampton. He was a former member of the Flanders Men’s Club, and a member of the Riverhead Fire Department for 35 years, retiring as a life member.

He was married for 31 years to Phyllis V. (Di Martin), who survives him. Also survived by seven children, Sean P. Murphy Sr. of Hampton Bays, Gary Murphy Jr. and his wife Karen of Riverhead, Paula Hoshyla and her 
husband Paul of Hampton Bays, Linda Lorenz and her companion Gary Saulnier of Hampton Bays, Sheila Murphy of Aquebogue, and Joanne Ferreira and her husband Victor of 
Florida; 15 grandchildren, Fred, Danny and Jamie Lorenz, Joshua, Zachary, Jacob and Hannah Ferriera, Sean Jr., Ryan and Erin Murphy, Corinne and Bridgette Murphy and Robert, Noah and Josiah Hoshyla; and four great-grandchildren Freddy III, Ava and Noah Lorenz and Tristian Hoshyla.

Under the direction of the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays, visiting hours were held at the Southampton Full Gospel Church on December 21. The Reverend Donald Havrilla conducted an evening prayer service. A funeral service held on December 22 at the church, and officiated by the Rev. Havrilla.
