George Ward Jr. of Sag Harbor Dies January 8

George Ward Jr. of Sag Harbor died on January 8, 2017. He was 75.

Mr. Ward was born at Southampton Hospital on February 24, 1941, the son of Julia and George Ward, both of whom predeceased him. He had a love and natural knack for mechanics and worked at the family garage until it sold in 1980. In addition to working at the garage, he was a Sag Harbor Police officer, before relocating to the Southampton Town fleet maintenance garage. Even after moving to Florida, he continued to work at the Volusia County bus garage until he retired in 2010.

Survivors said he was a dedicated son, husband, father and brother through kinship as well as through many friendships. He was an honorary member of the Sag Harbor Fire Department, after having served for 29 years. He had a love for classic cars and was involved in many car clubs in Florida and drove around in his ever-evolving collection. Survivors said he will be remembered always for his big heart and gentle soul.

Mr. Ward had a short, simple and priceless bucket list: to be surrounded by his four sisters, his children and grandchildren and, of course, his friends for his last days; his list was fulfilled. The final memories shared during those visits will be carried in the hearts of his firemen brothers, family and friends, survivors said. He will be remembered for his great humor and deep affection for those he loved.

Mr. Ward is survived by four sisters, Eileen Iacono of East Hampton, Miriam Guildi of Southampton, Kathleen Spalding of West Islip and Judith Lattanzio of North Sea; children, George and wife Patricia of Kentucky, Cindy Capalbo and husband Christopher; and grandchildren, Christopher and Haley of Sag Harbor. He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Carol Ward; and a brother, Donald.

A funeral, with a Sag Harbor Fire Department Honor Guard, was held on January 12 at St. Andrew’s Church in Sag Harbor. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor.

Southampton DWI Arrests for the Week of December 12

William Campos Lopez, 26, of Speonk was arrested on December 8, at 3:40 a.m., by Quogue Village Police charged him with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor.
