Gustav Andrew Matz
Gustav Andrew Matz, a resident of Hampton Bays since 1956, died at the Westhampton Care Center on July 9. He was 85.
He was born in Blair, Pennsylvania, to Andrew and Katherine Matz and was one of eight children, four boys and four girls.
He entered the U.S. Navy as a gunnery mate 3rd class in 1944 and received an honorable discharge in 1946. In 1956, he moved to Hampton Bays and went to work with his brother Michael as a sheet metal mechanic for Matz Sheet Metal.
He is survived by siblings, Gertrude Eadie of Hampton Bays and Susan Matz of Babylon; nieces and nephews, Michael, Thomas and Arthur Matz, Janet Hobson, Linda Nappi, Paulette Bowden, and Donna Harbst; and 19 great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings, Michael, Anthony, Tobias, Catherine Hasil and Elizabeth Matz; and a niece, Elizabeth Scanlon.
Visiting hours were held at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home on Monday, July 11. A funeral service officiated by Pastor John Kenreich of Christ Our Saviour Lutheran Church of Hampton Bays took place on Tuesday, July 12. Interment followed at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays.
