Harold R. Normoyle Sr. of Brentwood died at home in his sleep on February 19, 2017. He was 87.
One of 11 children, he was born on February 4, 1930, to Raymond Normoyle Sr. and Jenny Lucas, and the family resided in East Quogue.
Mr. Normoyle enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1947 and served as a seaman apprentice. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to civilian life. He was forced into early retirement due to injuries on a construction job when he was in his late 50s.
When he was 82 years old, he suffered multiple strokes that debilitated him for a time but with stubborn perseverance, he grew strong again and spent his last 16 months enjoying as much of life as it would give him, survivors said.
He was a strong, hardworking, giving, loving man who never hesitated to help his family whenever it was needed. Survivors said he was loved and respected by many.
