East End Hospice is urgently seeking volunteers to provide in-home companionship and respite care for hospice patients across the South Fork, from Moriches to Montauk.
“Volunteers are an important part of the hospice team,” said Mary Crosby, president and CEO of East End Hospice. “They offer supervision while caregivers take a break, assist with light household tasks, provide emotional support, and help with meaningful projects like organizing family photos or writing letters.”
No prior experience is necessary — just a compassionate heart and a willingness to complete a training program. “Many volunteers say the experience is life-changing,” said Volunteer Coordinator Susan DiSario, adding that the role offers deep personal insight and fulfillment.
Free volunteer training will be offered twice a week via Zoom in October. Sessions will cover topics such as the philosophy of hospice care, patient and family needs, communication skills, grief and loss, and the volunteer’s role.
Preregistration and an interview are required.
