Jackie Oelerich-Johnson
Former Hampton Bays resident Jackie Oelerich-Johnson died on March 26 at North Collier Hospital in Naples, Florida, after an 18-year battle with cancer. She was 51.
Born on June 28, 1960, Ms Oelerich-Johnson was a 1979 graduate of Hampton Bays High School, a three-sport varsity athlete in field hockey, basketball and an All-County pitcher in softball. As a senior, she led her team to the Suffolk County final.
She graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in physical education and after college traveled to Europe and studied at the Cordon Bleu school in Paris. She held jobs as executive chef at the National Golf Club in Southampton, and the Don Cesar in St. Petersburg, Florida.
After her marriage and re-location to Naples, Florida, she taught physical education at St. Michael’s Lutheran School in Ft. Myers for five years until her cancer forced her into early retirement.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, East Naples Fire Captain Matt Johnson; her son, Mitchell; her mother, Marjorie; brothers, David, Jimmy and Kevin; brother-in-law David and some of her closest friends, Anna, Lucette and Sean. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Teresa, Maria and Jill; brothers-in-law Marcus, David and Danny; nieces Martha, Sarah and Katie; nephews Branden and Kyle; and many friends.
