Jerry Bitting of Calverton died at his home on November 3. He was 67.
Mr. Bitting was born in Rockaway Beach. After serving his country in Thailand during the Vietnam War, he settled on the East End. Spending most of his time in Westhampton Beach, survivors said, he was considered a “local.” He was a master carpenter who for years worked with two local builders, Mark Jones and Joe Spano. Simultaneously, he was a fixture of the East End’s night life, working as a maitre d’ at Club Marakesh for years, playing softball for Fellingham’s and mingling in his favorite haunts, Magic’s Pub and the Artful Dodger. Fitness-conscious, he was a marathon runner.
A wake was held at Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach on November 9. A memorial service took place at the Baiting Hollow Congregational Church, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery, on November 10.
