John B. Douglas
John B. Douglas of Hampton Bays died on May 23 at Southampton Hospital. He was 85.
Born on September 30, 1927, in Albany, he served in the U.S. Air Force, mostly in the South Pacific, from 1945 to 1948. He married Elizabeth Foster in 1950, and they lived in the Albany area and suburbs of Syracuse until 1969, after which they moved to New Hampshire. When they retired in 1986, they moved to Hampton Bays to build a home on the Foster family property.
Mr. Douglas was an insurance salesman and manager for the Hartford Insurance Company for almost 30 years. He was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman and do-it-yourself enthusiast. Survivors said he was a devoted husband and a proud father to his two sons.
He is survived by his wife of more than 62 years, Elizabeth Foster Douglas, known as Betty; two children, John (Jack) III and fiancée Cate Roberts of Massachusetts, and Bruce and wife Delora of Indiana; and five grandchildren, Rebecca Johnson and Barton, John C., Katherine E. and Joanna L. Douglas; and a great-granddaughter, Louisa Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. A memorial service will begin at 3:30 p.m., conducted by the Reverend Peter Larsen of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Southampton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Dominican Sisters Family Health Service, 103-6 West Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, NY 11946.
