Landscape Reward

Ruth Ann Rosenthal’s article “Plant Natives for a Resilient Future” [Residence, May 2] was timely and inspirational. The native plants she listed are beautiful and all are very deer resistant.

There are many plants native to our area that we have never seen. Online nurseries, including Prairemoon Nursery and Prairie Nursery, are quite educational and comprehensive, discussing the plants, characteristics, history, adaptability, benefits and native ranges.

You can also get a Deer Resistant Meadow Seed Mix from Ernst Seeds. Rent a sod cutter and remove an area of lawn that is not needed, or completely eradicate an area of invasive species, and plant natives to create a much prettier composition that will invite birds, butterflies and pollinators.

You will be truly rewarded, inviting the beautiful native birds and insects to your home — but the restaurant is closed for deer, and when there is nothing palatable for them to eat, they will simply pass on by.
