Laura C. Siegmund
Longtime Hampton Bays resident Laura C. Siegmund died on October 1 in Fort Myers, Florida.
Born in the Bronx in 1918 to William and Catherine (Berkel) Harrison, her parents died when she was very young and she was raised by her aunt, Elizabeth Berkel, in the Melrose section of the Bronx. She graduated from a secretarial course at the Immaculate Conception School in Manhattan in 1936.
Ms. Siegmund was introduced to her future husband by a mutual friend and they married on May 11, 1941. She was a devoted homemaker, caring for her growing family, always putting her family first, survivors said. She became a summer resident of Hampton Bays in 1963, and moved to the hamlet full time in 1972. She was a faithful parishioner at the Church of St. Rosalie. In her retirement years, Ms. Siegmund and her husband loved to travel, to go on cruises and would spend the winter in Florida, always returning for the holidays to be with family.
She is survived by her three children, Catherine Wangenstein and her husband Carl of Florida, Robert Siegmund and his companion Barbara Schurek of Florida, and William Siegmund and his wife Marjorie of Hampton Bays; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of almost 71 years, William, less than six months ago.
A memorial Mass will be held on November 5 at the Church of St. Rosalie in Hampton Bays, followed by interment of ashes at Calverton National Cemetery.
