Laurie Nann Soroka died November 27 at her home in East Quogue from complications stemming from a chronic spinal cord condition. She was 61.
Born February 6, 1952, in New Jersey, she attended Drew University in Madison, New Jersey.
Survivors described Ms. Soroka as a fun and compassionate woman who was known to have great taste in antiques, who was long involved with the Hampton Classic Horse Show and who was a familiar face around the Jewish Center of the Hamptons in East Hampton. They said her love for life was contagious, and that she had a special place in her heart for her family and animals.
She worked in the family business of health care publishing. After visiting eastern Long Island, she relocated to the East End in 1990 with her husband, two daughters, Liz and Kate, and father-in-law. She worked in advertising sales and began her involvement with the Hampton Classic Horse Show. Survivors said her love of animals and her desire to do something a little different intertwined as she worked many years for the Hampton Classic, managing the children’s activities and the animal tent.
Motivated by her desire to teach and expand her horizons, she studied Hebrew education at Hebrew Union College in Manhattan and became a Hebrew school teacher.
In addition to two daughters, she is survived by twin brothers, David and Lance Cassak.
A memorial service will be held at the Jewish Center of the Hamptons on Thursday, December 5, at 11 a.m.
