Listen To Them

We need to listen to our girls’ words, as they can be more profound than the words of adults.

At President Biden’s inauguration, a diminutive Black girl gets up to speak, and everything changes. Amanda Gorman said that we have to get back to hope and live as one world.

Then there was a little girl from Sweden, Greta Thunberg, who stood up in front of the United Nations in 2019 and stunned our leaders with her eloquent understanding of climate change. She made it clear when she said, “We will be watching you.”

How many adults among us would have the courage to do that? The message was simple: We are killing this planet, and it is on your watch.

Another girl, Emma Gonzalez, stands up after the Parkland school mass killings. Before her classmates and the cameras, she shames all of us, but mainly our politicians, because they have the power to correct this horror. She knows that they have been loyal only to a group that makes money for them and supports their reelection.

The common thread is money and the fear of change. These brilliant young people tell us that they, and we, will not survive without change.

Listen to these girls — God put them here for a reason.
