Lucy Sachak Dies At 89

Lucy Sachak, a lifelong resident of Eastport, died at her home on Sunday, November 13, following a short illness. She was 89.

Born Lucy Salamone in 1921, she was a graduate of Eastport High School, class of 1940. Following high school Ms. Sachak was working as a bookkeeper at Sweezy’s at the time of her marriage to Vincent T. Sachak on Christmas Day in 1942. After her husband’s return from his U.S. Army service in World War II, she spent the next two decades as a housewife and mother. At age 44, she re-entered the 
workforce and retired in 1983 as office manager at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Riverhead.

In her later years she enjoyed sewing, cooking, and artwork. She was also a devout Catholic devoting much of her time to the functions, worship services, and prayer groups of St. John the Evangelist Church in Center Moriches.

Ms. Sachak is survived by her husband Vincent; children, Tim Sachak of California, Geraldine Neely of Florida and Elaine Harrison of Eastport; a sister, Mary Austin of North Carolina; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held at 
Sinnickson’s Moriches Funeral Home on Monday and 
Tuesday, November 14 and 15. A funeral Mass was held 
Wednesday, November 16, at St. John’s Church. Interment followed at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
