Marie Peterson Ingram
Former Southampton resident Marie Peterson Ingram died in Fort Myers, Florida, on April 23. She was 79.
Born on April 5, 1934, to Stellan and Hildur Peterson of Brookfield, Massachusetts, she graduated from Brookfield High School in 1952 and the University of Massachusetts in 1956. During her high school years, she was most proud of her accomplishments as a worthy advisor with the International Order of the Rainbow Girls.
From 1956 to 1960, she was a laboratory technician at the New York City College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, where her husband, Walter J. Ingram was enrolled as a student.
After living in California where her husband was stationed with the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps, she returned to Long Island and, in 1972, settled in Southampton.
In 1975, she received a master’s degree in education from Southampton College and for 20 years had a rewarding career as a teacher at the Remsenburg-Speonk Elementary School. During this time, she was honored to be a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, which promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
Ms. Ingram enjoyed being active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the First Presbyterian Church of Southampton and playing golf with her many friends as a member of the Southampton Golf Club.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Julie K. Ingram, Clifford A. Ingram, and Steven E. Ingram; and four grandchildren, Dylan, Jenna, Joshua and Jacob Ingram.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Southampton, 2 South Main Street, Southampton, NY 11968.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, June 2, at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Southampton.
