Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on December 31, 2021 with his family at his side.

Martin, better known as “Marty,” was the quintessential family man whose genuine generosity and sparkling humor will always be cherished. He was married to his childhood sweetheart Maureen McNeill for 54 years. He was blessed with 3 children Brian, Karen, and Lorraine as well as 5 wonderful grandchildren Connor, Kylie, Martin, Kate, and Mia.

Martin was the son of Della and Peter McNeill growing up in Brooklyn. He served in the National Guard in Fort Dix and received a degree from Pace University and the New York Institute of Finance. He worked himself up from the mailroom at Vilas & Hickey to head trader of Sinclair Global Group and then finished his career at R.F. Lafferty & Co. With his longtime partner Barry Forst and execu-tive assistant Joanne Kehoe.

He was always the first to volunteer for charity events and was on the Board of Trus-tees of Xaverian High School and Fontbonne Academy. He made great friendships in the Xaverian Fathers Club that he ran for many years. He was awarded numerous citations for his leadership and charity endeavors. He took great pride in helping to organize numerous social and charitable events throughout his community and in his beloved Bay Ridge. He was a founding member of the Bay Ridge Roller Hockey League, coached baseball, softball, and basketball at the St. Anselm’s youth activities. Even with a demanding professional life, he always gave his time, talent, energy, and love to many causes and people, often behind the scenes never looking for the spotlight but making a huge impact on countless people.

During summers, Marty could be found in his “paradise compound” in Sag Harbor. He welcomed many friends and family to his home and cottage leaving a legacy for his family to enjoy for generations to come. He was an avid Ranger fan and even bigger fan of his son’s/grandson’s hockey teams, grand-son’s baseball, and basketball teams as well as daughters’/granddaughters’ swim teams where he was always in the stands known to cheer with his infamous cow bell. He was proud of his Irish heritage and took great pride in watching his granddaughter’s Irish Step Dance performances. He was also a yard sale extraordinaire. He had a lovable humor that brought smiles to everyone along with endless humorous stories coupled with the kindest of hearts. He told us to live “with no regrets” and to “have fun.”

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen, and devoted children Brian (Keri), Karen (Pete), and Lorraine (Dave). His grand-children, whom he cherished, include Connor, Kylie, Martin, Kate, and Mia. He is survived by his sister-in-law Patricia Miller (Charlie) and brother-in-law Danny Malone (Rosanne) as well as numerous nephews and nieces Jessica, Lindsay, Dana, Daniel, Sean, Chelsea, and their families. He is predeceased by his parents and son-in-law Kevin.

Due to Covid, visitation restrictions will be limited to immediate family only. A celebra-tion of life will take place this summer.

VIEWPOINT: Life’s Quiet Wonders

By Roger Rosenblatt The solar eclipse, as advertised, was something to see, or partially to see, depending on where one stood. What is less observable yet just as remarkable is the way we apprehend such phenomena, the state of wonder we enter as we stand quasi-mesmerized before things we do not understand, and over which we have no control. Wonder. We feel it at an eclipse and, equally, though not in the same way, when something horrific happens, like the disaster at the bridge in Baltimore. Something occurs beyond rational comprehension. The sky darkens or the water blackens, and we ... by Roger Rosenblatt
