Mary Childs Nagle, formerly of Westhampton Beach and Remsenburg, died on January 31, at her home in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was 88.
The daughter of Ellsworth “Ozzie” Childs and Adrienne (née Harcum) Childs, she attended Garden Country Day School in Jackson Heights, Queens, and majored in English at Wellesley College. Upon graduation, she went to work for United Press International, where one of her duties was writing for Kate Smith’s radio show.
She was an active member of the Westhampton Yacht Squadron and enjoyed gardening, reading, playing bridge, and spending time with family.
Throughout her life, she summered in Westhampton Beach and it was there that she met the man who would become her husband of 67 years, Alec Nagle, who survives her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Judith Hallock, also of North Carolina, and Laura Wilson of Florida; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her son, Alexander Nagle III, a sister, Bebe Frielinghaus, and a brother, Bud Childs, predeceased her.
The family will receive visitors from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, at the Follett & Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach.
A funeral will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, at Westhampton Presbyterian Church, followed by internment at Westhampton Cemetery.
