Melvin J. Mahanna, formerly of North Sea, died on June 26 at The Bethamy Retirement Home in Spencer, North Carolina. He was 81.
He was born on November 30, 1941, in Washington, Pennsylvania, to the late Donald and Margaret Mahanna. He was the youngest of four siblings. After graduation, he moved to Bellport, then became a long time resident of North Sea. He later moved to Salisbury, North Carolina, where he enjoyed his retirement.
Mahanna was a retired firefighter with the North Sea Fire Department. He served 30 years, was an ex-captain and received the Fireman of the Year award twice (1985 and 2002).
He loved NASCAR, traveling, camping and spending time with his late wife, Judith A. Bedell of Southampton.
He is survived by his two daughters: Dawn Marie LaBrecque and Lynn Michelle Mahanna; and his grandson Dagan Scott Resling.
