No Representation

No RepresentationAs residents of East Quogue, we find ourselves in a very unique situation.

With all of the money we pay in taxes, there is no representation to the west, and there is no representation to the east.

Let us first talk about the west. Approximately 80 percent of our tax dollars are spent on school taxes. Almost half of that amount goes toward tuition for our high school students to attend Westhampton Beach High School. However, in order to be elected to the high school Board of Education, you must reside in Westhampton Beach.

It is frustrating that East Quogue does not get to have a seat at the table when it comes to the high school Board of Education as it leaves us with no representation.

Well, we find ourselves in that exact same situation to the east. The Town Board, the Planning Board, and the Zoning Board currently have all of the authority, yet East Quogue is not represented on those boards. That is simply unacceptable.

These are our tax dollars; we are not just a bank. Why are we, as East Quogue residents, OK with this scenario? Are we just to assume that we are being heard? Should we also assume that outsiders will have our best interests at the forefront?

There are some things that we cannot change, but we have an opportunity to do what is best for East Quogue. It is obvious that East Quogue residents are much more capable of making decisions for our very own people. We not only deserve a seat at the table, we need to set the table.

It is time for East Quogue to have a voice! Vote “yes” to becoming the Village of East Quogue.
