Nora Scanlon of Southampton, known to friends and family as “Peggy,” died July 26. She was 89.
Born in Woodside, Queens, she moved to Southampton after her marriage to Kenneth Scanlon. They lived in Southampton Village until the 1970s, when they moved to Southampton Cove.
She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; and a son, Patrick. She is survived by her children, Kenny, Maureen, Sean, Kathleen Jaggers, Colleen, Noreen and Michael; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild and countless others who called her “Mom” and spent their otherwise lonely holidays as part of her family.
Visitation was held on July 31 at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral Mass took place on August 1 at the Basilica Parish of Sacred Hearts Roman Catholic Church in Southampton. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
