Regarding the article about the “transformation of the Hidden Cove Marina” [“Hidden Cove Marina in Noyac Undergoes a Major Transformation,” 27east.com, September 5]: Joe Ialacci claims to be bringing improvements to the area. Here are some observations of the area since coming under new ownership.
The vessels now being commercially operated out of this location are completely too large for the Mill Creek area, some as large as 62 feet. They overwhelm the shallow, narrow waterway. Regardless of their size, they often exceed the speed limit and disregard the no-wake restriction. These vessels come and go multiple times a day, leaving large, rolling wakes that persist long after the vessels have passed.
Watching these vessels maneuver during docking, the water looks like it’s boiling around them. The running of their thrusters and engines churns up the bottom of the creek. Since their arrival in this area, I have noticed a significant change in the water quality. It has a cloudy, murky look to it most of the time.
There has been an increase in vehicle traffic, as well as parking issues. Increased police response to the location for disturbances. An increase in foot traffic to and from the location. Partygoers, who are sometimes obviously intoxicated. Loud and obnoxious people coming and going, sometimes long after dark. They seem to forget the fact that people live in the homes they’re passing. Not all of us are on vacation.
Mr. Ialacci stated his desire for this location to have a “Mykonos-like vibe.” Google’s description of Mykonos contains the following statements: “known for its summertime party atmosphere, bars that blare thumping music, massive dance clubs that typically stay open well past dawn.”
His vision for what he wants this place to be is not an improvement. Our community is not lacking a destination like this, it doesn’t want one. Nor does it want the problems associated with it.
