Open Discussion Needed

The proposal to open up the Cilli Farm property drew my attention, as I often walk by that property and the impressive barn group [“Stewardship Plan Pitched For Sag Harbor’s Cilli Farm Preserve,” 27east.com, April 14].

It would certainly be a good idea to clean out the junk left there and perhaps develop one or two walking trails through the property: It might be a good locale to see interesting birds. Also, it might give walkers an opportunity for more of a nature walk away from speeding cars.

It has been suggested that the property is agricultural and should stay that way. As I see it, though, the agricultural elements of that piece of land have been overgrown and lost by the growth of numerous small trees and rogue bushes. Deer and probably ticks may be the prime growers there now.

It was a good idea for the Dawgpatch organization to surface their ideas. In the future, an open discussion might be useful before any firm commitments are made as to the future of the Cilli Farm.
