Paul R. Owen
Paul R. Owen of Hempstead, formerly of Hampton Bays and Southold, died at his home on December 8. He was 63.
Born in Clacton-on-Sea, England, on April 9, 1949, to Brian and Annette Owen, he was the eldest of seven children. Although he never became a U.S. citizen, he always identified with being an American. In his youth, he loved playing baseball and football. His first great heartbreak was when the Dodgers left Brooklyn.
Mr. Owen’s interests were not limited to athletics. He graduated from Port Jefferson High School and continued his education with college correspondence courses. He shared a business with his father as a brick layer.
At the time of his death, Mr. Owen was the assistant resident supervisor at the Salvation Army Rehabilitation Center in Hempstead. There he lived a good example as a born again Christian for others to follow, survivors said.
He is survived by his father, Brian Owen; a daughter, Stacey Owen-Downs and husband John of Hampton Bays; and siblings, Loraine Owen, Lisa Saverice, Steve, Brian, and Peter Owen.
A memorial service will be held at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays on Saturday, December 22, from 2 to 4 p.m.
