Court Annuls Suspension of Southampton Builder’s Home Improvement License

Builder Michael White of Georgica Builders has prevailed in court over Southampton Town’s Licensing Review Board, which had suspended his home improvement contractor license. The board issued White a 60-day suspension on September 13, 2023, after two hearings, but White soon challenged the ruling in Suffolk County Supreme Court, which stayed the enforcement of the suspension pending adjudication. Following oral arguments on February 28, Suffolk County Supreme Court Justice Stephen Hackeling annulled the suspension, determining that the Licensing Review Board lacked jurisdiction to issue the suspension, because new home construction, plumbing and electrical work are “specifically excluded from the definition ... by Brendan O’Reilly

Shapiro’s letter [“Fact vs. Fiction,” Letters, February 29] doesn’t address how provisions of town code and an easement restrict the way this land can be farmed, and that he has a long history of violations. Using inflammatory accusations to deflect doesn’t change the facts. This property’s easement is crystal-clear that personal agriculture, including animals, is simply not permitted on this parcel, no matter how laudable, self-sustaining or regenerative. The relevant passage from the easement is posted on our website, savebutterfarm.org. An easement is a voluntary agreement ... by Staff Writer
