Respect: “have due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights or traditions of ...”
Ralph Fasano, executive director of Concern Housing, is calling Frances Genovese a major antagonist to his vision [“Deserve Respect,” Letters, February 1]. While he puts himself on the cross with all his hard work, etc., he fails to mention that he hoodwinked our community with the promise of jobs for our working class. Come to find out, it’s not.
He never mentions that on December 29, 2022, at his other location, Blue Ridge Apartments, after a stabbing occurred on that date, the residents are scared, tires slashed at night, crime does exist (see Newsday, 12/29/2022). He touts that the buildings will be beautifully landscaped, with guards 24/7. Why?
He says that the feedback should be grounded in facts and handled with respect and civility. I’m not sure that’s the case when he bused veterans to a town hall meeting and doesn’t explain, why the guards and gates? He claimed it was workforce housing but failed to mention that anyone from anywhere can apply. He hasn’t been honest with the community since the beginning.
We need sensible planning that will result in housing for our local residents with needs in an area that is safe, and not having to struggle every time they enter/exit their community. County Road 39 is not safe — all we locals know this and fear having to drive this road daily. The accidents will occur, and the village will have to deal with the road closure and traffic diversion through their community.
Finally, Ms. Genovese should be commended for her diligent research that has made Mr. Fasano ignite. He has looked into her background and disclosed where she votes, finding it “galling” — but she has the right to disparage any issue she desires.
