Arnold Courtney Miller III of North Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Hampton Bays, died on May 2 at Hope Hospice in Florida. He was 87 and the former pastor at the Hampton Bays United Methodist Church. A memorial service was held on October 1 in Hampton Bays.
Born on May 18, 1928, in Baldwin, to Arnold C. Miller II and Emily (Benjamin) Miller, Rev. Miller earned his undergraduate degree from New York University, a graduate degree from Drew University, and a master’s in religious education from New York University. In 1977, he was awarded a doctorate in ministry from Drew. He was ordained with Deacons Orders in 1953 and Elders Orders in 1955.
Rev. Miller’s first pastorate was at the United Methodist Church in East Meadow. His career path took him to churches in Westport, Connecticut, to Valley Stream and back to Connecticut in Greenwich, Brooklyn, and, finally to Hampton Bays, where he was pastor from 1985 to 1990. Although retired in Florida, he served as pastor for eight years at the Fort Myers United Methodist Church.
Rev. Miller is survived by his wife of 66 years, Johnnie (Massey); three children, Oram “Ted” Miller of Los Angeles, Craig Miller and wife Marilyn of Michigan, and Susan Miller of Florida; and five grandchildren, Paul Miller, Brian Miller, Suresh Miller, Ghita Miller and Madhu Miller.
Rev. Kent Terchunian, assisted by Rev. Chris Doyle, Rev. Lee Hardgrove and Rev. Jack King, officiated at the memorial service at the Hampton Bays United Methodist Church. Arrangements were under the direction of the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays.
