Richard Speed of Westhampton Beach died on September 18. He was 75.
Mr. Speed graduated from Westhampton Beach High School in 1963. He played football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from the State University of New York Agricultural and Technical College at Morrisville and Miami University of Ohio.
He joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. Upon returning from Vietnam, he helped run the family business, Speed’s Pharmacy, in Westhampton Beach.
Mr. Speed was a proud member of the Westhampton Beach Fire Department for over 45 years. He loved animals, especially his golden retrievers and his parrot. In his lifetime, he enjoyed running, his motorcycle, coaching Pop Warner football, rooting for the Boston Red Sox, the Kansas City Chiefs, listening to good tunes, visiting local restaurants, anything to do with the beach and attending as many Hurricanes games as possible.
He is survived by two daughters, Tracy and Kimet; and three grandsons, Ryan, Anderson and Cameron.
Memorial visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Werner-Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Saturday, September 26, at 10 a.m. and proceed to the Westhampton Beach Fire Department for an outdoor funeral prayer service.
