Robert Monette
Robert Monette, know as Captain Bob, of Remsenburg died at the Peconic Bay Medical Center on Tuesday, July 26, after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He was 73.
Mr. Monette loved fishing from his dock and held annual summer parties where he introduced many children to snapper fishing and crabbing. His friends loved to go fishing with him as well. His generosity and fun-loving ways endeared him to all, family said.
Mr. Monette was the anchor of his family, always offering wise counsel with his inimitable optimism and good cheer. He promised his wife, Jackie, when they first met that life with him would never be dull. Although he worked hard, he believed there was always time for fun. The two would often dance the night away, and in the morning he would be out in the garden with his beautiful flowers. And he always found time for poker on the internet.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, LouAnn Robertson and her husband Richard, Robert and his partner Maria, Charles and his wife Amy, and Michael and James; and grandchildren, Zachary, Charles, Alexandria, Olivia and Daniel Monette and James and Jessi Robertson.
The family received friends and family at the Follett & Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach on Friday, July 29. A funeral Mass was officiated by Father Walter Kedjierski on Saturday, July 30, at St. John the Evangelist Church in Center Moriches; cremation at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery followed.
