Dillon Santorelli is taking over the Hampton Bays girls soccer team, replacing Andrew Seabury as head coach this fall.
Santorelli, who will be assisted by Teresa Loewenthal, has been a science teacher in the Hampton Bays School District since the 2019-2020 school year, and has a deep soccer background, having played at Smithtown West High School. His father, Donald P. Santorelli, has a Town of Smithtown soccer complex named after him in Saint James for coaching numerous club teams throughout the years. Santorelli said coaching at the high school level is something he’s always wanted to do.
“We have a good amount of youth on the team,” he said. “We have a lot of promising eighth- and ninth-graders, and we will probably pull up at least one eighth-grader to varsity, so we’re excited about the youth we have as far as development of these players go. With no JV team this season, Rosie Haddock, she’s our middle school coach, we’ve been in constant communication about certain players and it’s been fun working with her.”
Alejandra Montoya is the eighth-grader Santorelli was referring to. He said she’ll probably start at center or outside mid to start the season. Although it is such a young team, Santorelli likes the senior leadership he has with Lexi Ramos, Demaris Garcia and Jordyn Heaney all contributing on that front. Sophomore Briana Farrell will likely start in goal for the Baymen this season, while Esther Lopez, a junior, is a versatile player that can play all around the field, Santorelli said.
Hampton Bays starts the season this Friday with a nonleague home game against Bellport at 9:30 a.m. before hosting Miller Place in its first Division II game on September 5 at 4 p.m.
