Saul L. Sherman
Saul L. Sherman of Water Mill died on Sunday, May 15. He was 84.
Mr. Sherman was a graduate of Harvard Law School and served in the U.S. Foreign Service during the occupation of Germany. He was a partner at Rivkin, Sherman and Levy, specializing in trade law. He co-authored the definitive guide to the GATT and served on NAFTA panels as an international arbitrator. He also served as a member of the executive committee of the international section of the New York State Bar Association for many years and was one of the founding members of NYSBA International.
He was a Water Mill resident since the 1950s and was a member of the Water Mill Citizens Advisory Committee. Mr. Sherman loved the beauty and wonder of Water Mill and always wanted to live there, survivors said. He was beloved by his family and will be remembered for his brilliance, wit, and lifelong commitment to the highest ethical ideals.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judith (née Kofsky); children, Kate of Manhattan and Bill of Sound Beach, stepson David Shonkoff of Georgia; and grandson, Cooper of Manhattan. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Carol (née Esberg).
A memorial service took place on Tuesday, May 17, at Plaza Community Memorial Chapel in Manhattan.
